Sly Morikawa is an artist and photographer whose sensitive, dreamlike photographs capture the intuitive interplay between intimacy and desire. Her work navigates the dualities of human experience—light and dark, calm and chaos, beauty and tension—by drawing on recurring themes of sex, subculture, and self. Her depictions of the angelic and the unorthodox invites viewers to reflect on their own agency, whilst presenting a world where one can suspend biases and taboos.
Since 2020, Sly has released ten publications of her bodies work in collaboration with international publishers such as Friend Editions (New York), Salt and Pepper (Tokyo), and Village Books (UK). In 2022, she began exhibiting her work in both solo and group shows around the world, including Los Angeles, Tokyo, Sydney, Manchester, and Kyoto. Sly was nominated for the annual Dazed 100 list of creatives in 2023 for Art & Photography, and in 2025, held her debut institutional solo exhibition, 'What was, what will be’ at 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art in Sydney. She currently lives and works between Sydney and Tokyo.
